Banwari Lal participated in review meeting chaired by Thaawarchand Gehlot regarding Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme

Chandigarh, January 7: Haryana Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Minister, Dr. Banwari Lal today participated in  review meeting chaired by Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Mr. Thaawarchand Gehlot, regarding Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS-SC) Scheme for Students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Protection of Civil Rights, Transgender  Rights and  Rights of persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The meeting, was held through video conferencing from Delhi.

In the meeting, Dr. Banwari Lal  while giving suggestion about the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, said that in the proposed Post-Matric scholarship scheme,  the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes should be given one-time allowance annually. Besides this, Central Government should have 80 percent share in the proportion of allowances given to such students while the State government should have 20 percent share.

The Minister further suggested that the annual income  limit of the families of students belonging to scheduled castes should be more than Rs. 2.50 lakh so that more and more meritorious students can avail the benefit of this scheme. He said that many investigations related to scholarships are going on, as a  precautionary measure, on the basis of eligibility, a provision should also be made for giving a chance to the students involved in such investigations to be included in this scheme once the investigation is complete.

Dr. Banwari Lal also thanked Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi and Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Mr. Thaawarchand Gehlot for implementing scheme benefiting students belonging to  Scheduled Castes. He said that in the next five years, more than four crore students belonging to Scheduled Castes will be benefited by the  Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS-SC) Scheme. Under this scheme, a budget provision of about  Rs. 59,000 crore has made recently  by Union Cabinet.

While concluding the review meeting, Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Mr. Thaawarchand Gehlot said that the suggestions given by the states on various issues would be  considered and efforts would be made  for the implementation and reach of the schemes drafted for the eligible beneficiaries.

On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr. Ramdas Athawale, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr. Krishan Pal Gurjar and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Mr. Rattan Lal Kataria also joined and addressed the review meeting through video conferencing.

Ministers and Senior Officers of Social Justice and Scheduled Castes Department from all states across the country also attended the meeting.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Department, Anand Mohan Sharan and Director, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Department, Geeta Bharti and other senior officers of the department participated from Chandigarh.
