Presides over Two-Day International Conference at Panjab University on Gandhi and Ambedkar’s Philosophy

Punjab Power and Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO emphasized the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s philosophies in addressing contemporary social issues at the Two-Day International Conference on “Gandhi and Ambedkar’s Philosophy: Inclusion, Equality, and Dignity” held here at Panjab University.
Addressing the inaugural session of the conference as Chief Guest, Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO highlighted the distinct approaches of Gandhi and Ambedkar towards justice, equality, and dignity. He said that Gandhi advocated for moral transformation and gradual change, while Ambedkar pushed for structural reforms and legal frameworks.
The Minister stressed that understanding these philosophies is crucial in addressing caste, class, and social disparities in India. He emphasized the importance of promoting understanding and acceptance among diverse communities, as well as upholding constitutional safeguards for marginalized groups.
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the conference has provided a platform for discussions on the relevance of Gandhi and Ambedkar’s philosophies in today’s society. He said that such events brought together experts, researchers, and scholars to explore ways to create a more just and inclusive society. “By embracing the teachings of Gandhi and Ambedkar, we can build a future where inclusion, equality, and dignity are not just ideals but lived realities for all”, he concluded.
This two-day international conference is being organised by the department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University in collaboration with department of Political Science, Centre for Distance and Online Education, Panjab University, department of Human Rights and Value Education, DAV College for Girls, Yamunanagar & International Ambedkarites’ Network.
Prof Raunki Ram, Prof Harsh Gandhar, Prof E. Nahar, Dr. Ashu Pasricha, Prof KC Agnihotri, and Prof Namita Gupta were present on this occasion.
