Catch them young : On World Environment Day, school children plant saplings on Moga bypass environment park

Plantation drive aimed at instilling sense of responsibility towards environment in school children, Tej Pratap Singh Phoolka

On World environment day today a few students of government and private schools planted saplings at Moga bypass environment park.
Taking this initiative Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr Tej Pratap Singh Phoolka said that the plantation drive today was aimed at instilling sense of responsibility towards environment in the school children who would grow up to be deeply concerned in protecting the green cover.
He added that 5 students each of Government High School Jumla Malkan, government senior secondary school boys Barnala and YS Public school participated in this drive today. Keeping in view protocols following the covid pandemic district administration had held a brief function. Deputy Commissioner added that it was to make kids aware about the importance of trees and their usefulness to mankind. Every person can contribute in a small way to enrich our environment, he added.
The plantation was done on a three acre barren plot after a fly over was constructed here located on Moga bypass on sangrur – Bathinda road.
The district administration had started developing this as an environment park in February last year. It took immense effort by various departments to develop this park. It consists of 800 trees comprising of native trees , flowery , fruit and medicinal trees.
The area has become a resting spot for traveller’s on the national highway. It has also become a good get away for the elderly and young who come here for long walks and jogging in the lap of nature. They are able to enjoy pollution free air.
ADC Mr Aaditya Dachalwal, GA Mr Ashok Kumar, DDPO Mr , senior citizen Mr Waqil Chand Goyal, president Municipal Council Mr Gurjit Ramanvasia, forest range Mr Ajit Singh, social worker Rajesh Bhutani, staff of DC office was present.
The 3 acres area on Moga bypass in Barnala is created with sole aim of creating a healthy environment by planting native and other trees . By stopping the use of one time plastic, protecting the air from pollution and not polluting our rivers we can save the environment for our future generations, said Mr. Phoolka
