KARGIL, APRIL 17, 2021: In order to take stock of the status of the availability of essential commodities in the district especially in view of the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan convened a meeting of the concerned officers at Council Secretariat here today.
Executive Councillor for Cooperatives and Information Mubarak Shah Nagvi, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Kargil Dr Zakir Hussain, Assistant Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Ruth Mary, Executive Engineer Public Health Engineering (PHE) Division Er Subhash Chander, Tehsildar Kargil Muhammad Salim Wazir besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.
The CEC inquired from the concerned officers about the availability of essential commodities in the markets besides the status of distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables, dates and milk received through air maintenance. He also took stock of the status of requisition placed for procurement of essential commodities through airlift from Chandigarh to Kargil till the time the Zojila axis is opened for traffic.
The Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Kargil informed the meeting that essential commodities including 4.2 tonnes of onion, 2.2 tonnes cabbage and 3 quintals of dates have reached Kargil today which shall be distributed among the general public through the Meat Dealers Cooperative Society tomorrow. He further informed that 14.9 tonnes of fresh vegetables and fruits and 8 tonnes of Amul milk have been received on 15th April, 2021 which have been distributed on 16th April, 2021 among consumers and retailers respectively.
As regards to the demand of essential commodities for the coming days till the re-opening of Zojila Pass, the concerned officers informed the CEC that the District Administration has placed a requisition for enhancement of tonnage for airlifting of essential commodities to 40 tonnes to the Indian Air Force (IAF) through the Divisional Commissioner Ladakh.
The CEC instructed the Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Kargil to include the provision of milk, eggs, vegetables, fruits and dates keeping in view the requirement of these essential items to people till the time the Zojila Pass opens for vehicular traffic.
Regarding the availability of other essential commodities, the meeting was informed that there is adequate stock of commodities including all kinds of pulses, sugar and maida atta available in the market which is sufficient to suffice the requirements of people for next 10 days, while enough quantity of salt, ghee and all kinds of spices are also available which are sufficient to meet the requirements till the end of April, 2021.
Pertaining to the availability of rice, flour, LPG cylinders, kerosene oil and petrol, the AD FCS&CA informed that there is adequate stock of LPG cylinders, kerosene and petrol to meet the requirements till the end of April, 2021. She further said that FCI has sufficient quota of wheat and rice which is adequate to suffice the ration requirements till September, 2021, adding 2 months stock for April and May, 2021 has already been released by FCI to FCS&CA and the process of lifting is under process.
Keeping in view the immediate requirement of dates for people during Ramadan, the CEC directed the Deputy Registrar Cooperatives to take required measures for airlifting of 2 tonnes dates to the district through the MI-17 helicopter service.
The CEC also instructed the Executive Engineer PHE Kargil to expedite the streamlining of water supply connections in Kargil Town and Baroo area and complete the whole process by 21st April, 2021.
Meanwhile, CEC Kargil on Friday evening took up the matter with regard to expediting the snow clearance operations on the Zojila axis from Sonamarg side with the LG Ladakh, Advisor to LG and the Divisional Commissioner Ladakh so that the highway is cleared for traffic at the earliest. He also urged the LG Ladakh to take up the matter with regard to the enhancement of tonnage for procurement of essential commodities from Chandigarh to Kargil and Leh with the Indian Air Force authorities so as to suffice the requirements of people for essential items especially in view of the holy month of Ramadan.
The LG Ladakh, Advisor to LG and the Divisional Commissioner Ladakh assured the CEC Kargil that all requisite measures will be taken to make sure that the snow clearance operations on the Zojila axis from Sonamarg side is accelerated and tonnage for procurement of essential commodities from Chandigarh to Kargil and Leh is also enhanced so as to ensure smooth provision of essential commodities to the people.
