Like Modi, Captain Amarinder Singh not missing any opportunity to harass farmers
Bathinda, June 25 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Kisan Wing state president Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government was using various tactics to harass the farmers in connivance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Captain Amarinder Singh had betrayed the people of Punjab including the farmers by reneging on his 2017 pre-poll promises. In a statement issued on Friday, Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the Captain government, which claims to have surplus electricity, had failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the farmers for eight hours. He said that this shortage of electricity was similar to the artificial shortage of bardana (gunny bags) created at the time of wheat procurement.
Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh, Sandhwan said, “Like his boss PM Narendra Modi, Captain Amarinder Singh is also not missing any opportunity to harass farmers.” He said that despite being the most expensive electricity in the country, the farmers were forced to cultivate paddy by burning diesel. Sandhwan said that by not providing electricity, the Captain government was ensuring that the farmers were not able to grow paddy in time and had to go for alternative crops like maize or basmati; which were not procured by the Food Corporation of India (FCI). He said that Captain was helping in Modi’s plan to reduce procurement of paddy from Punjab by FCI or other central procurement agencies.
The AAP leader said that paddy plantation had to be completed by June 30 and after that, the farmers will have to go for either Basmati; which is bought by private players at their convenience or Maize, which has a MSP of 1850 but is being sold at ₹ 700-800 per quintal in open market. Sandhwan said that earlier Captain Amarinder Singh betrayed the farmers by colluding with Modi on the matter related to new farm laws and now was again putting burden on them as part of their conspiracy. He said that today due to the anti-people policies of the Captain government, the people of Punjab were struggling and going through hard times.
Sandhwan further said that before the 2017 elections, Captain Amarinder Singh had promised the people that the power projects undertaken by the Badal government would be reviewed and a white paper on these agreements would be issued. “But almost four and a half years had passed since Captain Amarinder Singh became the Chief Minister, but till now, he had failed to issue any white paper on the power deals made by the then Badal government; further exposing the collusion between the two,” he asserted. Sandhwan said that the power deals with private thermal plants were the root cause of the problem and the government should bring white paper on it soon.
