— (Inaugurates Judicial Jive at Panjab University Dept of Laws)
Chandigarh, November 6 –
Former union minister and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said chief minister Bhagwant Mann had not only failed to establish bio-energy projects which use paddy straw as raw material but had also failed to utilize central funds received by Punjab to manage paddy straw.
The Bathinda MP was talking to newsmen after inaugurating the Judicial Jive programme of the National Law Fest in the Panjab University campus here during the course of which she addressed and interacted with the law students of the varsity.
Mrs Harsimarat Badal said “before coming to power the chief minister had announced that AAP will create such conditions that companies will come to farmer fields and collect paddy straw from them at their own expense and also pay them for the same. This has remained a pipe dream with the government failing abysmally to compensate farmers for the loss incurred by them to manage paddy straw”.
Mrs Badal said AAP had also wooed the farmers in Punjab with assertions that it had produced a chemical in Delhi which would dissolve paddy straw in farmer fields and would be the most effective solution to manage the straw. “Farmers are still waiting for this chemical”, Mrs Badal said adding “this government had even failed farmers by diverting central aid sent to manage paddy straw only for propaganda activities”. Mrs Badal also highlighted that the government had failed to distribute adequate machinery to farmers to enable them to manage their straw.
Urging the youth to act as a bulwark for society, Mrs Badal said “the AAP government has presided over the complete destruction of the law and order machinery in the State besides leading the State into a financial crisis by going in for an unprecedented borrowing of Rs 50,000 crore in the last one a half years”. She also spoke on how AAP legislators were patronizing drug smugglers besides being actively involved in drug smuggling.
Earlier while addressing students at the Judicial Jive programme, Mrs Badal said the Jive programme was a celebration of justice which had given a platform to legal minds to share their knowledge with students. She also urged the students to be true to the values as enshrined in the constitution asserting “there is a huge responsibility on your shoulders to counter lies and falsehoods and stand by the truth”. She said it was encouraging that issues like Post Pandemic Economic Revival, One Nation One Election and Human Smuggling would be debated at the Judicial Jive.
Department of Laws Chairperson Dr Devinder Singh and Prof Supinder Kaur also spoke on the occasion.
