On the completion of two years in office, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday paid obeisance at the native village of Shaheed-e-Aazam Bhagat Singh and renewed his pledge to further make concerted efforts to cherish the dreams of the legendary martyr by making Punjab frontrunner in every field.

Addressing the gathering after dedicating a hi-tech museum to depict the life of a young revolutionary, the Chief Minister said that exactly two years ago he had assumed the charge of office after taking oath on this sacred land only. He said that ever since then his every action has been aimed at fulfilling the dreams of the iconic martyr who had laid down his life for emancipating the country from the clutches of foreign imperialism. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that in line with this philosophy his government had embarked several pro-people and citizen centric schemes to give push to development of the state and ensure prosperity of its people.

The Chief Minister unequivocally said that in the last two years he had not rested even for a minute and has been making concerted efforts for the progress of the state. He said that the results have started pouring in as due to the strenuous efforts of the state government, functions of celebration have started taking place in Punjab. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this tempo will be maintained in the coming years too and Punjab will soon become a frontrunner state in the country.

The Chief Minister said that with the blessings of the great Gurus, saints, seers and martyrs along with clear intention his government is working for the well being of the people. He said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh is a role model of the youth of the state and the country to serve the nation zealously and selflessly. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this land has been a source of inspiration for him and when he was first elected as MP he had come to pay obeisance here immediately after getting the certificate.

The Chief Minister bemoaned that even after the passing of more than 75 years of independence the people of the country are still striving for basic resources. He said that after the formation of his government it was decided that pictures of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr BR Ambedkar will be installed in all the government offices of the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it was tribute to both these leaders as Shaheed Bhagat Singh had brought freedom for the country whereas Baba Sahib was Chief Architect of constitution of India, which is guiding our democracy.

However, the Chief Minister said that today both freedom and democracy are in danger as the Union government is leaving no stone unturned to sabotage them. He said that the voice of opposition is being muzzled and the central agencies are being used to arm twist them and mute their voice. Similarly, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the orders of the judiciary are being turned upside down by bringing in ordinances adding that conspiracies are being hatched to change the constitution of the country.

The Chief Minister said that today new schools, hospitals are coming up, free power is given to 90% households, jobs have been given to more than 43000 jobs and others due to the good intentions of the government. He said that this was lacking during the earlier regimes due to which the state has lagged behind in the progress. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that now the state government is exposing the ugly face of the previous regimes.

The Chief Minister said that these leaders neither had vision nor intention to serve the people adding that their sole motive is to plunder the wealth of the state. He said that industry wants infrastructure and we want jobs for youth and tax for the welfare of the state due to which concerted efforts are being made. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that so far investments worth Rs 70,000 crore have been firmed up in the state with leading companies like Tata Steel, Sanatan Textiles and others making a beeline to invest in the state.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is setting up new medical colleges in the state and work on Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala medical colleges have already started adding that the students aspiring to pursue medical education will no longer have to go to countries like Ukraine as they will be provided quality medical education in these medical colleges. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that earlier governments have not paid any attention towards it but his government is laying major thrust on it. He said that the day is not far when Punjab will lead the country in every sector thereby making it a number one state in the nation.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is making concerted efforts for rejuvenating the health and education system in the state. He said that till now sending his child to government school was the compulsion of the common man but within six months it will be his wish to do so as the education system is being revamped. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Schools of Eminence have been set up across the state to impart quality education to the students adding that in similar manner the government health system is also being upgraded.

The Chief Minister called upon the people of the state to out rightly reject those forces who had rejected the tableau of the state for the Republic Day parade. He said that they had rejected the tableaus of the state during the Republic Day parade irrespective of the fact 90% sacrifices for freedom struggle were made by Punjabis. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this step motherly treatment against the state is intolerable as they don’t have any right to reject the tableaus of the state showcasing patriotism and nationalism in the state.

The Chief Minister said that the state government had scripted a new success story by purchasing Goindwal power plant earlier owned by a private company GVK Power Power at a cost of Rs 1080 crore. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that as coal from Pachwara coal mine, allotted to Punjab, can be used only for government power plants so with purchase of this power plant this coal can be aptly utilized for producing power to provide it to every sector of the state. He further said that it is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that 90% consumers in the state are getting zero power bill due to pro-people decisions of the state government.

Taking a jibe over a few leaders returning  to Akali fold, the Chief Minister said that these leaders were ‘spent forces’ who have been rejected by the people umpteen times. He said that these leaders can make  ‘ghar waapsi’ in Akali Dal, but they can never return to the houses of the common man who knows that they are good for nothing. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these political opportunists are switching their loyalties just for sake of power adding that neither they are worried for panth nor for state but their sole interest is to grab power.

Earlier, the Chief Minister also paid tribute at Samadhi of late S Kishan Singh the father of martyr. He also paid floral tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh at his statue. Bhagwant Singh Mann also undertook a tour of the newly constructed museum.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of expansion of Verka Milk Plant Mohali at a cost of Rs 325 crores.
