CM Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan garlanded the portrait of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar on the occasion of her birth anniversary. Born in a village Chauri in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, Ahilya Bai was married to Khanderao, son of Malharrao. Ahilya Bai Holkar ruled by making Maheshwar the capital. Ahilya Bai built temples, ghats, bawdis and also opened grain areas in the famous pilgrimage places of India outside the boundaries of her kingdom. Ahilya Bai was a people friendly, devoted to the religion, brave warrior and ideal ruler. She did many things for the social sector as well and the betterment of women.
