COLLECTOR HAS INVITED APPLICATION UNDER THE CITIZENSHIP ACT

The District Magistrate, North Goa has invited applications or objections under Sub Section 2 of Section 9 of Citizenship Act, 1955 accompanied by all supporting documents, within 3 weeks from the date of given of this Public Notice, for the purpose of inquiring into the issue of acquisition of citizenship of another country by such residents and make proper recommendations to the Central Government in accordance with the procedure specified in Schedule III of the said Rules. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi vide its Order dated May 28th 2019 given in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, directed that the powers exercisable by it under sub-section (2) of Section 9 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (Act No. 57 of 1955) read with rule 40 of the Citizenship Rules, 2009 shall also be exercisable by the District Collector, North Goa and District Collector, South Goa for the purpose of inquiring into the issue of acquisition of Citizenship of another country by residents of the State of Goa and make appropriate recommendations to the Central Government through the State Government in accordance with the procedure specified in Schedule III of the said Rules. The powers are subject to the following conditions, namely, the applications and objections shall be invited after due publicity by the District Collector, the inquiry shall be conducted in fair and transparent manner, keeping in mind the provisions contained in the said Act and the said rules and after inquiry, the District Collector shall make recommendations to the Central Government providing details of each case, as told by the Department of Information and Publicity.
