Barnala, May 17
A Pendu Sanjeevani Committee – community based program – for timely medical intervention for Covid 19 patients at grassroot level has been started in Barnala.
It has been started from Village Chananwal on May 13 by Varjeet Walia IAS, SDM Barnala.
Early proactive detection of all sick patients in the village, facilitating their testing, ensuring medication, daily monitoring of body vitals of patients and timely referral to Level 2 facility in case of health deterioration are the core principles of Pendu Sanjeevani Committee which consists of RMPS, health workers, Patwari, GOGs, Volunteers.
SDM Barnala conducted training of PSC members 13th May. Daily door to door health survey began on 14th May. This included recording body vitals such as body temperature, SpO2 levels, heart rate including symptoms experienced. This survey revealed all sick patients in the village including Covid non-tested patients.
As per this mode, daily village health survey report will be provided to CHO and SMO. They will categorise all patients in the village into Level 1 and Level 2 stages. 16 Sick patients with Covid 19 symptoms were identified on 15th May. Out of identified sick patients, 11 got their Covid test done after motivation by PSC.
SDM Varjeet Walia said “The idea is that PSC members will first identify Covid non tested patients and then motivate and counsel such identified sick patients for testing and isolation. Body vitals of such patients will be recorded daily in the survey which will help us gauge the medical condition of the patients who do not come forward for testing. Suitable medical treatment would be given to these L1 or L2 patients. This Sanjeevani model would result in reduction of fatalities in villages.
For instance, On 14th May, a patient was identified with SpO2 65%. The patient was immediately referred for medical treatment. The patient initially refused to get hospitalised, but the PSC members could convince her to get admitted.
PENDU SANJEEVANI MODEL can be replicated across villages. Community participation holds promise in combating Covid 19 pandemic in villages”
