Covid cases continuously increasing, mortality rate also rising, but Captain is busy self-applauding

Captain government failed to develop health infrastructure in state amid Covid-19: Sarvjeet Kaur Manuke

Persistent shortage of vaccine doses, inadequate arrangements for Covid making people suffer

Instead of bragging, if government had worked on hospitals’ structure and lack of staff, then it would have won war against Corona

Captain should learn from Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi government on revamping health infrastructure to tackle such pandemic

Chandigarh, April 21, 2021

Reacting to the growing outbreak of Covid-19 in the state and poor and inadequate arrangements of the Punjab government, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and deputy leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Sarvjeet Kaur Manuke termed it as incompetence of the Captain Amarinder Singh-led state government and demanded stern action in this regard. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Wednesday, Manuke said that the ruling Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government had failed and not done anything in the last one year regarding health facilities and infrastructure amid Covid in Punjab. “The Punjab government has been taking very lenient steps for the last one year to deal with Corona due to which today the people of Punjab were suffering from this disease,” she added.

Manuke said that despite having the highest number of cases in the state, Captain Amarinder Singh was not paying any attention to it but was resting in his farmhouse. She said that Covid cases were continuously increasing with the mortality rate also rising, but Captain was busy self-applauding. “Captain should come out of his royal farmhouse and see the plight of the people suffering from this disease in hospitals, in absence of adequate arrangements and facilities,” said Manuke. She said that on one side, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other cabinet ministers were visiting hospitals, reviewing the arrangements and facilities and providing assistance to the people; on the other hand Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh is not even coming out from his royal farmhouse.

Manuke said that the rising trajectory of Covid-19 cases in Punjab has also started fuelling concerns over the oxygen supply in hospitals across the state. She said that many government hospitals in the state do not even have ventilators and the Captain government in its tenure of more than four years could not even establish any high standard hospital in the state. She further said that instead of making false promises and tall claims to the people of Punjab, Captain Amarinder should give facilities to them on the ground level with assistance as required. Manuke said that there was an acute shortage of Covid vaccine and medicines in the hospitals of the state due to which both doctors and the people were facing difficulties. “Persistent shortage of vaccine doses and inadequate arrangements of facilities for Covid are making the people of the state suffer. People turning up for the second doses are returning empty handed,” she added.

The AAP leader said that the people were forced to move from one place to another for their family and relatives infected with Covid, but the Captain government was still neglecting it. She said that there was also no transparency in the status of available hospital spaces and treatment facilities. Manuke said that under the program ‘Mission Fateh’ launched by the Punjab government, the government kept bragging but failed to do anything on the ground. “If the government would have addressed the shortage of staff instead of glorifying itself in advertisements, then the war could have been won against Corona,” she added. Manuke said that Captain Amarinder Singh should learn from Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi government on how to revamp the health infrastructure to tackle such pandemic.
