Farmer Shri Omprakash told that he has 25 acres of land, in which he used to cultivate wheat, gram and soyabean earlier. Due to decrease in production of these crops over time and increase in cost, he used to get only 8 to 10 lakh rupees in a year. In order to increase the income from farming, the Agriculture Department suggested Omprakash to do vegetable cultivation.
Farmer Omprakash this year planted chilli in 5 acres and bitter gourd in 6 acres of land. Planted 61 thousand saplings of two varieties of chillies. A total of Rs 7 lakh 50 thousand was spent on drip irrigation, mulching, plant protection and medicines. Omprakash said that 1000 quintals of chillies have been produced so far and another 500 quintals are estimated. Thus, he is expected to earn 20 to 25 lakhs from chillies. So far, production of 15 lakhs has been taken by Omprakash.
Farmer Omprakash planted coriander in 3 acres at a cost of 50 thousand rupees, in which 450 quintals of green coriander has been sold for 4.5 lakhs. He is expected to earn 30 to 35 lakhs after harvest of 6 acres of bitter gourd. Omprakash has planted onion on 5 acres, which is expected to produce 700 quintals. Thus, production of 50 to 70 lakhs is expected on 20 acres, which will give 30 to 40 lakhs of net income. Farmer Omprakash has become a source of inspiration for the farmers. He has made agriculture a four-fold profit-making business.
