Chandigarh, June 27 – Haryana Health Department administered polio drops to approximately 4.38 lakh ( 51%) children under 5 years of age on the first day 1st Sub National Immunization (SNID) round of Pulse Polio 2020-21. The Department aims to administer polio drops to approximately 8.5 lakh children during this campaign in the state.
Sharing information in this regard an official spokesperson of the Health Department said that the 1st Sub National Immunization (SNID) round of Pulse Polio 2020-21 has been started today in high risk areas including containment zones of high risk areas of 13 districts of the State viz: Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonipat and Yamunanagar. He shared that booth activity was conducted in these areas on the first day in order to maintain the polio-free status of the State.
These booths have been inaugurated by eminent personalities in most of the districts, including MLAs/ Deputy Commissioners/ Municipal Councillors/ Civil Surgeon or other senior officers. Sh. Deepak Mangla, MLA Palwal has inaugurated the SNID round in district Palwal, Transport Minister, Sh. Mool Chand Sharma and MLA Faridabad, Smt. Seema Trikha inaugurated the SNID round in district Faridabad. In district Gurgaon, activity has been inaugurated by 4 MLAs in different areas – Sh. Sudhir Singla, MLA in Gurgaon, Sh. Rakesh Daultabad, MLA Badshapur in Badshapur, Sh. Sanjay Singh, MLA Sohna in Sohna and Sh. Satya Prakash Jaravata, MLA, Pataudi in Pataudi.
He stated that in view of present scenario of Covid 19 pandemic, polio drops were administered by all health officials and front line workers with full precaution like use of personal protective equipment, wearing of mask, sanitizer, gloves etc. He added that the teams are following the hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene & social distancing measures.
The campaign will continue for two days by way of House-to-House activity to trace and administer polio drops to the left out children onto booth day, he added.
In order to smoothly carry out this campaign around 4,500 health teams, including health workers/ volunteers / Anganwari Workers/ASHA etc are working. About 500 field supervisors in all districts and 5-6 district supervisors in each district supervised the activity apart from Independent Monitors of NPSP-WHO. This activity was preceded by undertaking awareness campaign through print media, miking, and other IEC activities.
The left out children during the booth activity on first day will be administered polio vaccine drops on June 28 and June 29, 2021 through visit of house-to-house teams in high risk areas like slums, isolated hutments, brick kilns, floating/ migrating population & construction sites.
He stated that due to consistent hard work of all stakeholder departments, India and Haryana are polio free since 2012 and with every successive round of NID/ SNID it is ensured that Polio free status of India is sustained. He urged the General public to actively participate in this Campaign.
