MOP UP ROUND SESSION ON SEPTEMBER 1
JALANDHAR, AUGUST 24 2021
Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Tuesday directed health, education, and women and child development departments to make concerted efforts to ensure the coverage of all children and Youths (1-19 years old) under the National Deworming Day drive on August 25.
Presiding over a meeting with departments’ heads, the DC accompanied by Civil Surgeon Dr. Balwant Singh, said that the drive is aimed to keep the children’s intestines free of worms. He said that National Deworming Day will be observed tomorrow in which Albendazole tablets would be administered to all children aged 1-19 years. He said that the drive would be carried out in all 1484 government and aided schools besides 773 private schools, 1654 Anganwadi Centres, and 59 colleges (Government-Aided and Private, ITI).
Divulging more details about the drive, Thori said that school teachers have been deputed as monitoring in-charge to administer the tablets to the children.
The DC said that similarly, Anganwadi workers would give tablets to children at centers, and Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers would provide tablets to out-of-school children. He said that further, teachers and health department staff would ensure that the children properly chew the tablet in front of them.
Mr. Thori also informed that teachers would have to keep a record regarding administering tablets to children enrolled in class registers and have to compile a detailed report about the covered population. Similarly, Anganwari and Asha workers will keep the entire administrative record, he added.
“Worms can also lead to anemia, malnourishment and affect the mental ability of children”, he said adding this medicine is very essential for every child as it leads to good health and keeps the child safe from several diseases. He said that a mop-up round would be held on September 1.
