Cabinet Minister Balkar Singh to hoist national flag on August 15

A full dress rehearsal for the 78th Independence Day took place at the PAU grounds on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner, Sakshi Sawhney presided over the parade and hoisted the flag. She also took a salute from the participating contingents of March past comprising Punjab Police (Men and Women), Punjab Home Guards, NCC Scouts (Boys and Girls) and others, led by parade commander IPS Officer Jayant Puri.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by DCP Jaskaran Singh Teja and ADC Major Amit Sareen.The march past was followed by a splendid mass PT show by 750 students of 27 government schools, patriotic colourful cultural programme presented by students of different institutions including Spring Dale School, BVM School, DAV School and others.
In a first time, the visually impaired students from the Vocational Rehabilitation Training Centre in Haibowal sang the national anthem, while speech and hearing impaired students from Red Cross Deaf & Dumb School in Sarabha Nagar joined them using sign language.
Minutes after the full-dress rehearsal, the Deputy Commissioner also held a meeting with various departments in the stadium and gave the final touch to the arrangements for district-level Independence Day celebrations event. She said that Punjab Cabinet Minister Balkar Singh will preside over the district-level Independence Day function to be held on August 15 here.
