Department of Posts exceeds its targets for Swachhta and pending matters by end of Special Campaign 3.0

As the country is making efforts towards a Garbage-Free and Clean India, the Department of Posts has pursued its various goals and targets under Special Campaign 3.0 with unrelenting zeal, commitment and focus. Starting with the preparatory phase from 15-30 September 2023, the implementation phase of the Special Campaign 3.0 concluded on 31 October 2023 with the Department of Posts exceeding most of its set targets for the period.

Against a committed target of 75,000 campaign sites, the Department covered 1,50,852 locations, covering almost its entire network in the Swachhta Campaign. The Swachhta message and practice, thus covered all nooks and corners of the country, including remote and isolated areas, apart from the vast rural network of the Department. It also resolved 89,444 public grievances against an anticipated 72,000, 1,681 public grievance appeals against a target of 950, and reviewed 1,21,026 files, far exceeding the target of 82,172 of which it weeded out 88,376 files. As a result of the Swachhta efforts approximately 68,000 sq. ft. of space has been freed up and around Rs1.12 crore of revenue has been earned through disposal of scrap during the Campaign.

With wholehearted participation of the entire workforce, several good initiatives and best practices have also emerged during implementation of the Campaign:

  1. Training module on Swachhta and LiFE: The training modules were introduced to reinforce the values of an environment friendly lifestyle and the various aspects to self-assess progress   of cleanliness by each employee.  Over 1 lakh employees have completed each of these courses on Dak Karmayogi and iGOT platforms in a span of 10 days since their launch till 31.10.2023.
  2. SCP (Special campaign Portal): The portal was introduced to simplify the workflow for all employees across the national network to facilitate continued involvement and easing related information flow in this campaign.
  3. Wall art with themes inspired by the local culture was promoted in a big way to signify the local connect of the national post office network in all parts of the country.
  4. Felicitation of Safai Mitras: To recognise and respect them for their invaluable contribution to the cause of Swachhta everywhere.
  5. A national-level synchronized plantation at 11 AM on 2nd October to kickstart the Special Campaign on a positive note.
  6. Swachhata-themed slogan cancellation.
  7. An environment friendly initiative to repurpose and reuse old clothing by crafting functional, everyday bags at post offices, free of cost.
  8. Repurposing of space carving out room for Crèches, libraries, recreational club, yoga clubs, Herbal Vatikas and better amenities for customers and staff.
  9. Reviving Heritage buildings, preserving the core and preparing for the future- As a step in this direction, Ahmedabad GPO and Lashkar GPO were major achievements at reinvention during this campaign
  10. India’s first 3-D printed post office became fully functional during this period and has won the admiration of customers and all stakeholders.

On the foundations of these best practices and achievements, the Department of Posts is committed to maintaining and improving its physical network with involvement of all staff and citizens around each post office.
