Despite the temperature being 48.3 degree celsius, there was no power cut

On May 18, 7050 MW electricity was available in the state from all resources, while the demand of 9774 MW was met – Sh. Ranjit Singh

Chandigarh, May 19– Haryana Power Minister, Sh. Ranjit Singh said that despite the severe heat wave there were no power cuts and the demand for electricity was met. All this was possible only due to good power management of the government.

The Power Minister gave this information while interacting with media persons at his Chandigarh office here today.

The Power Minister said that uninterrupted power supply is being provided in the state since May 1 and there has been no power cut during the night for the last five days. Barring any kind of technical fault, even in big industrial cities like Gurugram and Faridabad, the industrial areas were also given full supply of power. He said that 500 MW additional power has been started from Adani Group and 500 MW more power will be available soon.

The Power Minister informed that arrangements have been made to purchase additional power of 1424 MW from Adani Group, 350 MW from Chhattisgarh, 150 MW from Madhya Pradesh, 500 MW from hydro-power from Sikkim. The router of the 600 MW unit of Khedar plant was damaged which has been imported from China, it will take some time to replace it. Thus, a total provision of 3024 MW of additional power has been made.

Responding to a question, the Power Minister said that as on May 18, 7050 MW power was available in the state from all resources, while the demand of about 9774 MW per day was met, which was 45.11 percent more than the previous year. He said that the peak hour period in the state is considered to be from June 15 to July 20 i.e. one month. Monsoon already arrives in July in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal. Therefore, the states of northern India take electricity from those states because there is no additional demand for electricity at that time.

In response to another question, Sh. Ranjit Singh said that in the month of April, expensive electricity was purchased at the rate of Rs. 12 per unit, now electricity is available at Rs. 4 to 6 per unit in the market too. The agriculture sector was supplied with electricity for 8 hours during the paddy season as water is needed at that time, now it is the cotton season, so power is being supplied for five hours. He informed that the process of setting up a new 700 MW plant at Yamunanagar is in the final stage. Hydro-power will also be available from Bhakra from May 22.

Farmers will have to pay only 25 percent amount on solar energy tube well

The Power Minister said that solar energy is also being promoted in the state, which is also the vision of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi. Haryana was given a target of 15 MW of solar generation by the Central Government, but we are producing 50 MW of solar power. Solar-power plants are being installed on government buildings, engineering colleges and other big buildings. For solar-powered tube wells, 30 percent amount is given by the central government and 45 percent by the Haryana government as subsidy, the farmer has to bear only 25 percent of the amount.
