In a prompt action against environmental rules violators, the District Administration today established the source of suspected chemical discharge which turned Singh Nallah (Seasonal Rivulet) water into red in Dhakoli area of Zirakpur.
Revealing the details, the Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said that the team of headed by Er. Rantej Sharma Punjab Pollution Control Board under the supervision of XEN Environment Lavneet Dubey has conducted a thorough probe in collaboration of team of Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HPCB) and samples had been collected so that detail analysis would be conducted. He said that prima facie facts were shown that this chemical belonged to a factory of a neighbouring state and our thorough probe established the fact.
Mr. Dayalan apprised that the enquiry established the fact that the main source of the suspected chemical is a Paper Mill of Industrial Area-1 of Panchkula. “This is a clear case of violation of norms and stern action is being recommended and the case would be raised on different official levels as the matter relates to other state,” he informed.
The Deputy Commissioner said that our teams had been commissioned at the site from yesterday to find the real source of the chemical and samples of the same had been sent to the lab for detailed analysis. Now the onus is on HSPCB as the source is situated in their jurisdiction. Patting the back of the PPCB team for swift response, he said that our team had also found the underground pipe which was being used to wash down the suspected chemical into the rivulet with the help of the JCB.
Meanwhile, Assistant Environmental Engineer Rantej Sharma told that the Pipe has already been seized/dismantled and recommended the action to HSPCB team which was here to help out to find the source of the chemical discharge.
