DLSA Launches ‘Aksham Se Saksham’ Empowering Youth campaign on eve of National Legal Services Day

•5 children each from 16 Senior Secondary Schools of Rupnagar shortlisted for free of cost training of legal services
Rupnagar, November 9:
With an intent to empower today’s youth and armouring them with the legal provisions and working of DLSA, a special campaign ‘Aksham Se Saksham’ empowering the youth was launched by DLSA, Rupnagar.
To launch this first of its kind campaign as pilot project at district Rupnagar, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar on Thursday organized a special event to commemorate and celebrate ‘National Legal Services Day’ under the able supervision of Smt. Ramesh Kumari, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, DLSA, Rupnagar. Sh. Manjinder Singh, Member Secretary, PULSA, SAS Nagar Mohali alongwith Smt. Ramesh Kumari, District & Sessios Judge-cum-Chairperson, DLSA, Rupnagar inaugurated the event at Government Girls School.
Talking about the launch of the campaign, Ms. Himanshi Galhotra, CJM-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Rupnagar informed that the project is a pilot idea of Punjab State Legal Services Authority to enhance legal literacy. The objective of launching this project on Legal Services Day is to armour the youth with legal weapons and spread the word of free legal aid through the mouth of younger generation who shall be our future informed citizens.
Pointing out that weaker section of the society, women, children, low income group usually have no access to Legal Services due to lack of knowledge or other circumstances where Aksham Se Saksham project focuses on extending legal services to these sections, marginalized section of society and children through the youth only.
Under this project, 5 children each from 16 Senior Secondary Schools of Rupnagar have been shortlisted who shall be trained free of cost in different phases about the working of free legal services, court working, working of police stations, children home, old age home adding that she said various wings of District Legal Services Authority with the objective to empower them with the knowledge regarding these institutions and to motivate them to extend legal services to the children in the schools as well as other sections of society.
After formally launching the event, special seminars about legal services institutions and free legal aid were delivered by Sh. Surjan Singh, PLV and Sh. Amandeep Saini, Deputy, Legal Aid Defense Counsel System, Rupnagar. Smt. Ramesh Kumari, District & Sessions Judge, Rupnagar motivated the students to say no to exploitation of any form and spread a word of Free Legal Aid.
She also motivated the students to celebrate Green Diwali and raise voice against stubble burning and environmental pollution. While Sh. Manjinder Singh, Member Secretary, PULSA sensitized students about National Legal Services Day and the objectives relating thereto. He said that Punjab State Legal Services Authority is committed to provide free legal services to marginalized sections of society. He also motivated the students to get legally armoured.
A special poster making competition was organized among 16 Senior Secondary Schools of District Rupnagar. Winners were awarded prizes.
