DR. B.R. AMBEDKAR STATE INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES ALL SET TO START WITH ADMISSION OF 100 MEDICAL STUDENTS

 

·       BOARD OF MANAGEMENT TAKES SEVERAL DECISIONS IN ITS FIRST MEETING

CHANDIAGARH, MARCH 13: In order to further providing affordable and quality medical education in the state, the State Government is all set to start classes at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, SAS Nagar Mohali from this academic session with admission of 100 MBBS students.

 

During maiden meeting of ‘Board of Management’ held here today it was conveyed that the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had already promised to extend all possible support and help to make this prestigious institution operational with effect from this session. Advisor on Health to Punjab Government Dr. K.K. Talwar chaired the meeting, which was attended by Member Parliament Manish Tewari, MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, Principal Secretary Medical Education & Research D.K. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Director Medical Education & Research Dr. Avnish Kumar, Director PGI Dr. Jagat Ram, Director Principal Manjit Kaur Mohi and Chief Architect Sapna.

 

The Board of Management was apprised that the renovation work of the Hospital and College building would be completed on time while the procurement of machinery, equipment and other required material was already under process. The recruitment of medical faculty and paramedics would also be made on expeditious mode as the advertisement in this regard has already been issued and the interview process would also be started in the end of March, said the Spokesperson.

 

The Board of Management has also decided that the future planning will be done in such a way that it provides best healthcare facilities in the region. The Board has also approved the proposals for engaging various services, constitution of various purchase committees etc. to expedite the procurement of furniture and other needful equipments said he adding that with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, a Government Medical College will be opening in the State after a gap of nearly four decades.

 

Notably, the state Government has already planned to further boost the availability of qualified health professionals, improve tertiary care in the government sector and utilise infrastructure of district hospitals with a view to promoting affordable medical education in the State..
