Direction given for cleaning ponds in populated areas on priority basis
Chandigarh, February 9 – Drainage system should be built along the roads of ‘Phirni’ in rural areas of Haryana so that the roads remain strong and the villagers do not face any sort inconvenience. The old ponds that are in the middle of the populated areas should also be cleaned on priority basis so that animals can get clean water to drink and diseases caused by contaminated water can be avoided. To ensure this, surveys will be conducted observing every nook and corner of villages of the state. The duty of conducting the survey will be assigned to Gram Sachiv.
These directions were given by Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Sh. Dushyant Chautala while presiding over a joint meeting of officers of Development and Panchayat Department and Haryana Water Resources (Conservation, Regulation and Management) Authority today. On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Development and Panchayat Department, Sh. Amit Jha, Chairperson, ‘Haryana Water Resources (Conservation, Regulation and Management) Authority’, Smt. Keshni Anand Arora along with other senior officers were present during the meeting.
Sh. Dushyant Chautala said that the streets of many villages do not have proper water drainage system. He directed the officers that along with the phirni, adequate arrangements should be made to ensure proper water management of the drainage.
The Deputy Chief Minister also directed to prevent overflow of village ponds during the rainy season and to ensure a concrete plan to clean the ponds every year so that the excess water coming from the ponds can be utilised for irrigation. He sought answers related to the action being taken by the Panchayat Department regarding the cleaning of ponds filled with dirty water and asked the reason for the delay in this matter and also directed to expedite the work.
