It may be noted here that PM GatiShakti (PMGS) National Master Plan (NMP) was launched by the PM Shri Narendra Modi in 2021. It is a transformative approach for integrated planning of multimodal connectivity to various economic zones, using indigenous technology and innovation.
PM GatiShakti’s twin framework including an inter-ministerial institutional mechanism at the Centre and State levels, and a GIS-data-based decision support system for integrated planning in the logistics and infra sector, is powering infrastructure planning and development in the country.
Since the launch of PMGS NMP, successful use cases by Infra and Social sector Ministries /Departments and States/UTs have been demonstrated. Holistic and integrated planning of defined areas on PM GatiShakti principles is now being adopted under the ‘Area Development Approach’ initiatives.
District Collectors possess unique and comprehensive understanding of their respective districts, specific challenges, priorities and infrastructure requirements, and can also verify data at their level. Hence, as a logical next step, the outreach of PMGS is being taken to district level.
It was informed that several cases have been identified under PMGS NMP by Infrastructure and Social Sector Ministries and States/ UTs. Ministry of Tribal Affairs has used PM GatiShakti to conduct a comprehensive analysis of 23000 tribal habitations under PM-JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) initiative. 35 interventions such as water, power, telecom and internet connectivity, education and health have been identifiedto bridge last mile connectivity for service delivery to these habitations. The project alignment of Lakhnadon – Raipur Greenfield corridor that connects NH-44 in the state of Madhya Pradesh with NH-30 in Chhattisgarh has been optimized using the PMGS NMP portal. It will also improve connectivity with 5 Major Railway Stations, 3 Airports, and 1 multimodal logistics park to improve multi-modal transportation. A Handbook for District Collectors that serves as a useful guidebook for onboarding district officers was distributed among all concerned stakeholders.
