UNDSS delegation call on DGP Haryana at PHQ

Chandigarh, July 13 – A five-member United Nations Department of Safety and Security (India and Bhutan) delegation today made a courtesy call on Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Sh. Manoj Yadava at Police Headquarters in Panchkula.

          The delegation led by Deputy Security Advisor, UNDSS, Sh. Victor Cobian, made a visit to enhance the coordination, cooperation and future support from police authorities in organizing various programmes of the United Nations and World Health Organisation across the state.

          During the meeting, the DGP apprised them about Haryana Police’s historic step towards empowering the citizens with round-the-clock Police assistance and added that Chief Minister of Haryana, Sh. Manohar Lal launched Haryana 112 – Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) on July 12 which facilitates the citizens to just dial 112 for all their emergency needs related to Police, fire and ambulance. In addition to domestic four languages i.e. English, Hindi, Punjabi and Haryanvi, the project also aims to cater to the foreign nationals like Japanese, Chinese, French and Spanish in the case of distress. For this purpose, Haryana 112 team is also planning to engage foreign language speaking volunteers on a pro bono basis.

          To this Victor Cobian, who is a Peru national (in Latin America) and Mission Leader UNDSS (India and Bhutan), has offered himself as the volunteer in Spanish language for the Haryana 112 project, which makes him the first volunteer under the scheme.

          Others present in the meeting include IGP Law and Order Haryana Sh. Sanjay Kumar, National Security Officer UNDSS, Sh. Dayanand Singhal, WHO Regional Head, Dr. Shrinivasan and UNDP Regional Head for Haryana Sh. Vikas.
