The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has appealed to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to address the shortage of oxygen in the state by implementing a proper system of production and storage of oxygen gas from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Refinery Phulokhari Plant. In this regard, senior leader of the AAP and MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur has written a letter to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh demanding that the Covid-19 pandemic had gripped the entire country and Punjab had also been badly affected by the pandemic.

She said that the number of Covid victims in the state was increasing day by day and as a result, the demand for oxygen gas in the state had increased tremendously, but it was not being met. “The high demand for oxygen demonstrates the importance of Covid management during this pandemic,” wrote MLA Baljinder Kaur in her letter. She said but it seems that the Punjab government had failed to accept this and take necessary action. She said that although the entire country including the state was facing severe shortage of oxygen; but in Bathinda’s Sri Guru Gobind Singh Refinery (GGSR) Phulokhari plant, even today the oxygen needed to save lives was being wasted.

The AAP leader further said that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Refinery had the capacity to produce ample amounts of oxygen, but due to non-installation of necessary gas storage equipment, gas was not being utilised. She demanded from Captain Amarinder Singh that a team of experts should be sent to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Refinery (GGSR) and necessary equipment should be provided for storage of oxygen, so that oxygen can be supplied across the state from Sri Guru Gobind Singh refinery on the lines of Haryana-based Yamunanagar refinery. She said that by taking such an initiative, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh could save the precious lives of the Covid victims of the state.
