Sukhbir Singh Badal expresses gratitude to Akali workers, farmers and people who participated and supported the SAD’s Kisan March

Says this is start of fight to secure justice to the annadaata and that the party would broadbase this struggle in the coming days

Chandigarh, October 2 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today expressed his deep gratitude to Akali workers as well as farmers, khet mazdoor and people from all walks of life that participated and gave their whole hearted support to the party’s Kisan March from the three Takths to the State capital yesterday.

In a statement here, the SAD President said “never before in the history of the State has a party’s programme been welcomed across the board in such a manner. While two lakh Akali workers participated in the March from Sri Amritsar Sahib, Sri Talwandi Sabo and Sri Anandpur Sahib, thousands of people from both rural and urban walks of life welcomed all the three cavalcades by coming out on the roads along the route. “It is due to this spontaneous eruption of support for the SAD as well as the cause of the farmer, khet mazdoor and arhatiyas that the March from Sri Amritsar Sahib took thirteen hours to reach the outskirts of the State capital yesterday”.

Asserting that Akali workers had followed the rich and glorious panthic tradition of rising in solidarity with the farmers and the poor, Mr Sukhbir Badal announced “this is the start of our fight to secure justice to the annadaata. We will not hesitate the broad base this struggle even further by taking it to Delhi and others parts of the country in case the voice of the farmer is not heard by the central government and he is not given justice by revocation of the recently passed agri black laws”.

Thanking Punjabis for the unstinted support given to the Kisan March, the SAD President also assured them that he was committed to the concept of Punjabiyat propounded by S Parkash Singh Badal and late Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee which had resulted in ushering in peace and communal harmony in Punjab after more than a decade of strife. “The SAD will do its utmost to maintain ‘bhaicharak sanjh’ and no sacrifice is too big to fulfill this goal”, Mr Badal added.
