NO ONE ALLOWED TO HORDE, MISUSE OXYGEN CYLINDERS, DEPUTY COMMISSIONER
Barnala, May 13 2021
In order to meet the increasing demand of oxygen cylinders in the ongoing Covid pandemic, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr Tej Partap Singh Phoolka has has recalled 125 Oxygen cylinders which were being put to non-medical uses in the district.
Performing the arduous task, SDM Barnala Mr Varjeet Walia said that Deputy Commissioner had passed an order that oxygen cylinders cannot be used for non-medical purposes to increase the number of cylinders at its disposal for medical purposes during the covid pandemic.
SDM Varjeet Walia said that since Barnala does not have its own oxygen manufacturing plant at the moment, the district administration was sending its trucks with empty oxygen cylinders to Mandi Gobindgarh for refilling. “The entire process of refilling takes upto 20 hours before we receive one lot of filled cylinders back. The daily consumption has risen four-fold in the last two weeks,” he said.
The paucity and pressing emergency made it essential to pool all available oxygen cylinders to meet the increasing requirements. Thence, led by SDM Varjeet Walia, the teams have started recovering cylinders from repair shops, manufacturing units and others.
Mr Walia added that consumption of oxygen cylinders in Barnala District has risen from 50 to 200 cylinders per day during the last 14 days.
SDM Mr Varjeet Walia and DSP Lakhvir Tiwana had formed two teams of Tehsildar and SHO each to recover all oxygen cylinders which were put to non-medical use in the market in violation of the orders.
