Capt Govt responsible for the displacement of the industry from Punjab: Aman Arora

Demands immediately roll back on peak load charges AAP urges CM to live his govt’s commitment to industrialists to charge ‘fixed’ rate of Rs 5 per unit

Chandigarh, July 30

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has castigated the Captain Amarinder Singh government for peddling lies in an article by him claiming he had fulfilled 75 percent of the poll promises listed in the election manifesto, which it said was nothing than a pack of lies.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Thursday, a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Sunam MLA Aman Arora, Bijli Morcha Incharge and MLA Meet Hyer and State President of Industry and Trade Wing Mrs. Nina Mittal alleged that more than 20 thousand industries had shifted base from Punjab to other states due to hefty power rates in the state when compared to the other states of the country.

Aman Arora said that this was not the end of the ordeal for the industrialists across the state. The Captain government gave another jolt to the fraternity by passing out another dictatorial order, saying that industries working between 6 pm and 10 pm would have to pay an additional Rs 2 per unit as peak load charge, which would burn a big hole in their pockets, saying that if the new order was implemented each unit would have to pay between Rs 11.50 and Rs 12 per unit.

Aman Arora reiterated that the Captain government had, in its election manifesto, promised to all category of industrialists in the state that all units would be charged at a fixed rate of Rs 5 per unit, saying he had backtracked on the promise overcharging the fixed-rate, as they were subjected to pay between Rs 9 and 10 per unit, even as three and a half years had gone by.

The AAP legislator Meet Hyer further added that the Captain government had made another promise to release a stimulus package worth Rs 300 crore amid Covid 19 pandemic to reboot the medium scale and large scale industry in the state, only to take a U-turn thus heaping the extra financial over the industries which were already fighting a big battle of survival and the mammoth financial losses they incurred due to extended lockdowns.

The AAP MLA said the government should, instead of forcing the industry already wrestling with the unprecedented financial slowdown to pay the additional charges, bear the expenses as per the promise made to the people, he said, adding the Punjab industry be allowed special industrial package available to certain other hill state across the country, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and others. Arora also condemned the government decision to impose another tax of Rs 20,000 that the each unit would have to pay on renewal every year.

Nina Mittal urged the Captain government to revisit the decision, which seemed to have been taken in a tearing hurry, and fulfil its poll promise to offer power to industrial units at Rs 5 per unit, thus saving the industry from displacement due to the ill-conceived policies and decisions of the successive governments in the state.
