…Says writing of letter to BJP president JP Nadda mere theatrics
…Captain favouring anti-farmer marketing laws to appease Modi
…Guarantee of govt procurement at MSP, only way forward to address farmers’ woes: AAP
Chandigarh, 2 November 2020
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema has described Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s writing a letter to BJP (BJP) National President J.P.Nadda over resumption of freight trains to Punjab which were suspended by the Centre under a deep conspiracy.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Monday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was indulging in theatrics, to say the least. He first enacted a drama of leading a delegation of all-parties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of talking to him to resolve the farmers issue, simply to mislead the farmers.
He misled them by convening a special session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha and bringing in three Bills purported to negate the central farm laws. Continuing his political stunt to take the farmers for a ride, he, instead of meeting the Prime Minister, announced his decision to meet the President of India and now he had shot off a letter to JP Nadda on the issue of resumption of goods trains to Punjab, dubbing his as a master of deceit.
Cheema said that while all this was a mere ploy to mislead the people of Punjab, especially the struggling farmers, Captain Amarinder Singh was directly and indirectly extending his support to the anti-Punjab and anti-agriculture farm laws, accusing him of playing to Modi’s tunes.
The LoP said that Chief Minister had no courage to talk or meet the farmers and listen to their woes, traders and other sections of the people of the state and resolve the issues and concerns, demanding he should step down as chief minister.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that until and unless the farmers of the state get a legal guarantee to procure all their crops at the MSP, the interest of the farmers could not be safeguarded. He added that the Amarinder Singh government should guarantee to the farmers to purchase the crop at the MSP on all crops, including wheat and paddy, which, he said, was the only way forward, since the Modi government was adamant on the issue.
