The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised questions on the Chief Minister Covid Relief Fund created by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh during the Covid-19 pandemic that started last year. In a statement issued from the party headquarters on Friday, AAP state president and MP Bhagwant Mann said that the Captain government had not made public the total amount that came in the CM Covid Relief Fund and details of where it was spent, till date. He said that the money of the public cannot be kept secret; therefore, Captain Amarinder Singh should give an account of the money of the Covid relief fund.
Taking a dig at the Captain government, Mann said that it had been more than a year since Covid-19 arrived in India and the first wave of Corona also passed, but the state government hospitals do not have adequate numbers of ventilators yet. “To counter the second wave properly, the number of beds in hospitals has also not been increased yet. When the government has not done anything, then the question arises that what did the government do for the crores of rupees collected in the name of Covid relief fund?,” he said. Mann said that the Captain government did nothing in this one year except promoting their false propaganda.
The AAP leader further said that the number of Covid patients in the state had been steadily increasing. He said that the mortality rate was also increasing significantly, but Captain Amarinder Singh was promoting himself in the name of disease rather than improving the health facilities. He said that the government was also manipulating the Covid death toll. “Hundreds of people are dying every day due to lack of treatment, but the names of all those people are not being included in the government records. In fact, the people are dying many times more from this pandemic than what the government is reporting, said Mann.
Mann said that it was very sad that the Captain government had issued a tender for the supply of 5,000 dead body covers instead of providing high quality medical facilities to save the life of the common man. He said that a tender was issued by the government asking that the dead body covers be supplied as soon as possible, which shows that the state government is playing with the people of Punjab only in the name of medical facilities. Mann said that the people can be saved from Covid only by providing high quality treatment, but the Captain government had so far failed to provide adequate medical facilities and other medical equipment to treat the Corona victims.
