Takes stock of COVID-19 mitigation measures, listens to the grievances of locals

KARGIL AUGUST 20, 2020: Commissioner Secretary Health and Tourism Ladakh Rigzian Sampheal during his Kargil tour made an extensive visit of Drass Sub Division here on Wednesday.

The Commissioner Secretary took stock of the status of COVID-19 mitigation measures in the Sub Division, met various public delegations to know about their grievances and issues besides conducting visits of the tourism potential sites in the area to develop them in terms of necessary infrastructure and other required facilities.

Chief Executive Officer Kargil Development Authority Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil Shabir Hussain, Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Munawar Hussain Wazir, AD Tourism Kargil Aga Syed Toha, SDM Drass Asgar Ali besides other concerned officers accompanied the Commissioner Secretary during the tour.

The Commissioner Secretary visited Botokul and other heritage and tourist attraction sites at Goshan, Chokyal, Tesboo and Bhimbat and Mushkow. He also visited the Kargil War Memorial Drass and paid his tributes to heroes of 1999 Kargil War.

The Commissioner Secretary said that a museum will be set up in Drass.

Meanwhile, a local resident from Chokiyal village Abdul Rehman donated old utensils for the museum to be set up at Drass which was handed over to the SDM Drass.

The Commissioner Secretary also visited Sub District Hospital Drass and inquired from the doctors about the medicare facilities available to the patients at the health institution.

The Commissioner Secretary said that considering the potential of Mushkow Valley to emerge as an adventure tourism potential, proposals will be sent to the Government of India for development of the area in terms of necessary tourism infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Secretary also met a number of public delegations at Dak Bungalow Drass who projected a number of demands including the operation of helicopter services for Drass especially during winter months, filling up of doctors’ vacancies in Sub District Hospital and SDM Office Drass and other related issues.

The Commissioner Secretary gave a patient hearing to all the grievances and demands of the locals and assured them of the redressal of all genuine concerns in a phased manner.
