JAMMU, MAY 31, 2021: Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu today hosted a virtual awareness event to mark ‘World No Tabacco Day’.
The department of Public Health Dentistry and oral maxillofacial pathology organized various programmes to spread the message of the World Health Organization “Commit to quit” the use of Tobacco and Tobacco related products.
It also organized a competition of the students of the institution through virtual mode on Instagram page PHDIGGDC. More than 75 participants of the institution participated in the said competition and was viewed by more than one lakh people.
Pertinently, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College and Hospital has been made Tobacco free institution and has started Tobacco cessation center (TCC) at Department of Public Health Dentistry.
This Tobacco Cessation center (TCC) was established on May 31, 2017, while Dental Council of India has made it mandatory for all Dental Institutions in India from the year 2018 to have Tobacco cessation center.
Patients reporting at Oral Diagnosis and Medicine department for OPD are screened for any kind of sign and symptoms related to use of Tobacco and related products and patients having habits of Tobacco chewing or smoking are referred to Tobacco Cessation center where they are motivated and counseled to quit use of Tobacco and related products.
