Farmers take advantage of awareness camp held at Rureke Kalan

Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government has decided that now DSR or ridge sowing of paddy will be done on Panchayati land. Divisional Commissioner Patiala Mr. Chander Gaind said while inaugurating camp held at village agriculture cooperative society Rureke Kalan to create awareness in direct sowing methods of paddy. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Nayar accompanied him.

Addressing the farmers at occasion, Mr. Chander Gaind said that Punjab Government has made historic decision of giving Rs 1500 per acre for direct paddy sowing and also decided to fix MSP on moong dal. He added that main motive of government was to herald in diversification to supplement farm income as well as save the fast depleting underground water. He added that to promote this he had been going to farmer training camps of all the districts and make farmers aware of it. He called upon farmers to adopt DSR or ridge sowing technique.
Calling upon farmers use direct paddy seed sowing technique Deputy Commissioners Barnala Dr. Harish Nayar said that farmers should take advantage of such camps.
Former PAU expert Daler Singh gave detailed information about ridge paddy sowing and former Joint Director Agriculture Dr. Baldev Singh told farmers about usage of fertilizers in crops.
Chief Agriculture Officer Barnala Balbir Chand said that last year 22096 hectares of land was covered under direct paddy sowing and this year 25000 hectares of land is expected to fall under it.
Progressive farmer Bahadur Singh from village Pakho Kalan said that for the past four years he has been using direct paddy sowing technique and his yield has increased considerably. Deputy Commissioner appreciated the progressive farmer.
ADC (G) Amit Bamby, SDM Tapa Simarpreet Kaur, AR Rupinder Singh Sidhu, Harjit Singh Bhandol, Dr. Amandeep Kaur , PAU experts and others were also present on the occasion.
