Congress and Majithia betraying Punjab by helping each other: AAP

Chandigarh, November 18 2021

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab state president and MP Bhagwant Mann termed the petition filed by senior Akali Dal leader and MLA Bikram Singh Majithia in the multi-crore drug case in the Punjab and Haryana High Court; as just an attempt to delay the matter, so that the time of the 2022 Assembly elections can be passed out.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Thursday, Bhagwant Mann said that the Channi government of the Congress and Majithia with the help of each other are trying to deceive Punjab and its people by adopting new tactics to delay the matter. The part of this are the reports of the Special Task Force (STF), which were never made public and under the guise of being sealed; the Congress government had been making efforts to save the drug mafia and their political masters. He further said that in the 124-page petition just a few days before the Assembly elections, Majithia’s demand to make himself a party in the case was just a conspiracy.

Bhagwant Mann said that the sealed report was just an excuse and if the government wants, action can be taken against drug smugglers. He said that Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa should tell whether the court has stayed the action against the drug smugglers. He said that when the High Court did restrain the ED and the government against drug smugglers, then for what reasons action was not being taken? He argued that the state government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) could take further investigation and decisive action against drug smugglers, bureaucrats and political leaders; because the Honorable Court did not restrain them from taking action against the drug smugglers.

The AAP leader further said that like the previous SAD-BJP government, the present Congress government is also openly defending the drug lords and their political bosses and is deceiving the people. Accusing the Congress government, Bhagwant Mann said that like Captain, the Channi government was also using the sealed reports in the High Court as an excuse to shun action on the much-hyped drug mafia. He said that due to the high level of collusion, the Captain government through the then AG Atul Nanda used to spend time under the guise of sealed investigation reports and now the Channi government under a conspiracy, did not appoint any Advocate General to advocate the matter in the court.

Mann challenged the ruling Congress that if drug kingpins and mafia were to be put behind bars as per the oath of Sri Gutka Sahib; they would have to show a living conscience and political courage and give up the pretext of sealed investigation reports in the High Court and stop helping Bikram Singh Majithia.
