KARGIL, JUNE 28, 2021: Executive Councilor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Phunsok Tashi today hailed the efforts of the Kargil Renewable Energy Development (KREDA) for starting the replacement of batteries of various solar power plants in Zanskar Sub Division.
The battery replacement initiative has been taken by the UT Administration Ladakh, LAHDC, Kargil and KREDA to augment the facilities of renewable energy sources in different villages.
EC Phunsok Tashi said that this has been one of the long pending demand of the people of Zanskar, as the people of certain areas have been receiving power supply from the solar power plants installed by the LAHDC from last 10 years, and the replacement of batteries will ensure uninterrupted electricity to these far off hamlets.
The solar power plants which have been enlisted for battery replacement include 25 KW plant at Itchar Lungnak, Muney Lungnak 37.5 KW, Tsazar Sham 40 KW, Skyagam Stoth 65 KW, Photang 5 KW, Juldo 37.5 KW and Tashi Tongdey 37.5 KW.
The batteries provided are latest kind of maintenance free AGM VRLA dry type that will last for next 10 to15 years.
Pertinently, renewable energy is proving a feasible mode of electricity ensuring the commitment of UT Administration Ladakh in making Ladakh carbon neutral.
