Executive Councilor Tourism, RD and Zanskar Affairs, LAHDC, Kargil Er. Punchok Tashi today kick-started a community plantation at Zanskar.

It was organized by Government Model Degree College Zanskar in collaboration with Himalayan Institute of Alternative Ladakh, Forest Department Kargil and Go Green Zanskar supported by the government departments, NGOs, religious and social organizations and the community of Zanskar.
OC Army Camp Padum, Chairman Block Development Council (BDC) Zanskar Stanzin Sangdup, Exen PWD, Agriculture Officer, Naib Tehsildar, Forest Officer and other sub-divisional officers along with their staff, school children and parents participated in the plantation drive.
While welcoming the chief guest and other guests, Principal Government Model Degree College Zanskar, Prof. Nasir Shabani said the plantation drive is aimed to make Zanskar clean and green.
It was informed that they will plant over 25,000 plants for which 18000 plants were provided by Forest Department Kargil and the rest were arranged by NGOs, social organizations and staff.
On the occasion, EC Tourism appreciated Prof. Shabani and his staff for initiating such a plantation in view of climate change.
He also appreciated Go Green Zanskar and Kanisheka Society for their efforts in planting trees for more than three years in Zanskar.
The EC also mentioned the efforts made by Padma Shree awardee Chultrim Chosjor for his contribution in making Zanskar green.
