To disseminate the message of the anti-stubble burning campaign in every part of the district through young minds for ensuring a clean environment, The Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare organized an essay writing and painting competition in Government Senior Secondary School in Sidhwan Bet on the stubble burning.

Block Agriculture Officer Dr Gurmukh Singh, Agriculture Development Officers Dr Kirpal Singh and Dr Shahab Ahmed addressed the gathering and made them aware of the harmful gases produced from the stubble burning. They added that the students can easily contribute in urging their parent/relatives/villagers to not to indulge in burning paddy stubble and exhorted students to educate everyone around them regarding the ill effects of stubble burning.
Further, they said that besides causing pollution, burning of stubble also erodes fertility of the soil. They asked them to motivate their parents and others in their villages to shun the practice and keep their villages free of the stubble burning.
As many as 70 students took part in the essay writing and painting competitions. The students were also felicitated for best painting and essay on the menace.
