Majri Police Station lodges five FIRs against illegal mining within a week

In continuation of its crusade against illegal mining, launched by the Department of Mining and Geology, Three more FIRs were registered, yesterday after traces of illegal mining were found at three different places under Majri police station.

Giving detials, Executive Engineer Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology, District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Akash Aggarwal said that adopting the zero tolerance policy against illegal mining in the district, illegal mining is being identified by field staff of the department as per the information received from various sources.

He said that during this checking campaign, the field officers of the department found traces  of illegal mining activities at Burana, Lubangarh and Salempur Khurd, in which three separate FIRs have been registered against them under section 4 (1) and 21 (1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957 at Majri police station. He said that whereabouts of these unknown persons involved in illegal mining at these places and the ownership of the land are being investigated so that they can be arrested as soon as possible.

According to Executive Engineer Akash Aggarwal, about 3.42 lakh cubic feet of illegal mining of earth was found at Burana, while at Lubangarh, about 1.05 lakh cubic feet of gravel and sand extraction was found.  About 22,700 cubic feet of gravel and sand have been found at Salempur Khurd.

He further said that if any person or village panchayat has information about illegal mining near their villages, they should immediately bring it to the attention of the mining authorities so that police and departmental action can be taken against those found indulged in illegal mining activities.He clarified once again that mining is not allowed by the department at any place except the de-silting site of Banur Weir in the district.  It may be worthwhile to mention that the department has registered five cases of illegal mining under Majri police station during the last one week.
