Event is being organized in subdued manner due to COVID: DC Girish Dayalan

The full dress rehearsal was held at the Shaheed Major Harminderpal Singh Shauraya Chakra Vijayata Government College Phase-6, Mohali this morning for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in which Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu will be the Guest of Honour.
As I-Day is being held in a subdued manner this year in the wake of Covid pandemic, only contingents of Punjab Police and NCC Cadets are taking part in the parade. As per the state government’s guidelines, Independence Day will be celebrated across the state amid safety measures and crowd restrictions due to the pandemic.
Taking stock of the arrangements for event, Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan after the full dress rehearsal of the event informed that owing to the COVID crisis, the Independence Day celebrations would be restricted to hoisting the national flag followed by the address by the Chief Guest and prize distribution. He said that in the interest of public safety no public gathering would be held on the occasion and no school children would be involved in the event, where by no cultural programme would be organized.
Adhering to safety protocols, complete sanitization of the venue would be ensured with only the essential staff on duty, informed the Deputy Commissioner. Despite COVID-19, the celebrations would be organized in a befitting manner and with full zeal, he added.
He was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Satinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Ms. Komal Mittal, AC (General) Tarsem Chand Sharma, SDM Harbans Singh, MC Commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg and Civil Surgeon Dr. Adarshpal Kaur and others.
