Haryana: 797 held under NDPS Act in Sirsa

Chandigarh, June 17 – Continuing its crackdown on the drug trade, Haryana Police has arrested 797 accused under the NDPS Act during the past 11 months in Sirsa district.

Sharing the information here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that during the same period police had registered 473 cases against the accused and confiscated a huge quantity of narcotics worth crores of rupees.

Giving the details of major recovery, he said that 5 kg 568 grams of heroin, 41 kg 666 grams of opium, over 3649 kg poppy husk, over 72 kg ganja and 57,619 intoxicating tablets/capsules fallen under the category of prohibited medicines were seized from the possession of arrested accused.

The drive is in line with the government’s commitment to make Haryana a drug-free state. The crackdown on those involved in peddling and possession of drugs is being conducted on a daily basis across the state, especially in the districts sharing borders with other states.

Meanwhile, DGP Haryana Sh. P.K. Agrawal appreciated the efforts of the district Superintendent of Police and his entire team in intensifying war against drugs and its peddlers. Besides stepping up action against drug peddlers, the police has also taken several steps to sensitize the general public about the menace of drug abuse.

The spokesperson also urged the people to come forward and share the information regarding the sale, consumption and use of narcotics in order to help the police curb the drug menace from the society.
