Chandigarh, August 20 – Haryana has two food testing laboratories functional under the Department of Food and Drug Administration, Haryana. Besides this, the State Food Laboratory, Haryana is situated at Sector 11-D, Chandigarh and District Khama Laboratory, Polyclinic, Sector-10, Karnal. Also, there is a drug testing facility – State Drug Laboratory, Haryana, Sector 11-D, Chandigarh.
This information was given by Cooperation Minister, Dr. Banwari Lal in the absence of Health Minister, Sh. Anil Vij, while replying to a question raised during the ongoing session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
He said that both the Food Testing Laboratories have been notified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India under Rule 43(1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the State Pharmaceutical Laboratory, Haryana, Chandigarh, Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and is working under the rules and the said laboratories are under consideration for renovation.
He informed that Rs. 50 lakh has been released by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India for the repair work of State Food Laboratory, Haryana, Chandigarh and Rs. 846 lakh for the purchase of three advanced equipments. The remaining amount of Rs 164.48 lakh has been released by the State Government for special repairs and laboratory safety equipment. The repair work of the said laboratory has been completed and all the three advanced equipments have been installed in the laboratory. The training / testing of the three advanced equipments is going on.
He said that Rs 50 lakh has been released by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India for renovation of District Food Laboratory, Karnal, and Rs 450 lakh for basic equipment and the remaining amount of Rs 90.29 lakh has been approved by the State Government for special repairs and laboratory safety equipment. The repair work of the said laboratory is to be done by the Public Works Department (B&R) Department, Haryana, which is likely to be completed in the current financial year.
It is proposed to replace State Pharmaceutical Laboratory, Haryana is running in Chandigarh in Sector-11-D, with the headquarters of Food and Drug Administration Department, Haryana in Sector-3, Panchkula. The cost of the said plot/place has been borne by the Department and the construction of the building of the headquarters of the Department and the building of the said laboratory is under consideration. For the said purpose, Rs.1,664 lakh has been sanctioned by the Central Drug Regulatory Organization and Rs.1,200 lakh has been sanctioned by the State Government.
