Haryana Health Department improved the vaccine wastage data from 6 per cent

Chandigarh, May 25– Abating all traces of vaccine wastage, Haryana Health Department improved the vaccine wastage data from 6 per cent, as per the data recently released by the Centre Government to 2 to 3 per cent (as per recently updated data available with State Government). The vaccine wastage percentage was relatively higher in the data released by the Centre Government as there was data mismatch and the districts have rectified it.

Sharing more details in this regard, Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Sh. Rajeev Arora said that in a data recently released by the Centre Government, Haryana had a 6 per cent vaccine wastage percentage of Covieshield and 10.2 per cent wastage of Covaxin.

Thereafter the officers of the Health Department immediately swung into action and identified that there was a data mismatch. He said the officers concerned corrected the data mismatch and subsequently the wastage percentages dropped from 6 per cent for Covieshield to 3.1 per cent and 10.2 per cent of Covaxin to 2.4 per cent. Thus, the average wastage percentage is between 2 per cent to 3 per cent.

He elaborated that Mission Director, National Health Mission, Haryana, Sh. Prabhjot Singh, along with State immunization team held two orientation programmes with all officers of the Health Department involved in vaccine administration of all districts through videoconferencing. Thereafter the districts with high wastage were identified and separate consultation was given to them. Sh. Arora shared that the districts which were high on vaccine wastage were Hisar, Palwal, Nuh, Kaithal, Rohtak and Bhiwani.

On the present status with regard to vaccine administration, Sh. Arora shared that 53,72,311 vaccine doses have been presently administered in the state. Among the best performing districts with regard to vaccine administration Gurugram has administered the highest number of 6,34,610 vaccine doses, followed by Faridabad at 5,00,600 vaccine doses and Ambala at 3,94,162 doses, he added.

Sharing information regarding category wise administration of vaccine, Sh. Arora said that 2,07,892 Health Care Workers (HCWs) have been administered first dose of vaccine and 1,33,828 HCWs have been administered the second dose of vaccine. Among the Frontline Workers (FLWs), 1,64,609 FLWs have been administered the first dose of vaccine and 75,740 FLWs have been administered the second dose of vaccine.

Among people above 60 years of age and those falling within the age group of 45 to 60 years, 32,70,712 people were administered the first dose of vaccine and 7,74,105 have been administered the second dose of vaccine. While those falling in the 18 years to 44 years of age group 43,88,638 persons were administered first dose of vaccine and 9,83,673 persons were administered the second dose of the vaccine.
