Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh Organised a Human Rights Outreach Rural Camp at Village Faidan Nizampur on 26th March 2023. This rural camp was a part of the ongoing Skill Training Program for Para-Legal Volunteers of The Human Rights Volunteer’s Cell for Para-Legal Services (Legal Aid Clinic of the Centre for Human Rights and Duties).
Under this Skill Training Program, a socio-legal survey was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat (Chairperson) alongwith Dr. Kanika Sharma (Guest Faculty) and Ms. Kavita and Mr.Gurdeep Singh (Senior Research Fellows of the Centre) to identify the needs and problems of local people of Faidan Nizampur which is the adopted village of Legal Aid Clinic of the Centre and to provide them information on legal aid services and government schemes. The main aim of this program was to expose the students to ground realities and to inculcate strategic intervention on certain matters.
Oral and hand hygiene sessions, craft activities and tattoo making followed by the distribution of the Arts kits to the preschool kids of Anganwadi Centre were the key highlights of the rural camp. These sessions were led by the students of the Centre namely, Vishal Kamboj, Mehakpreet Singh, Yashika, Navdeep Sodhi, Prerna, Harpuneet, Manavjeet Malik, Yashpreet Singh Gill , Poonam (JRF) and Padma Chhoing.
In the camp, Dr. Arunima Chandra MDS, QuraDent Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Bedi Hospital educated preschool kids on how to maintain good oral hygiene and the best practices to follow. She also performed a check on 50 preschool kids and give suitable treatment advice at Faidan’s Anganwadi centres.
