Post-matric scholarship scam
AAP MLAs raise questions on Captain government
Chandigarh, July 28 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised several questions over the non-submission of documents to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), related to the multi-crore rupee scam in the state’s Dalit students’ post-matric scholarship scheme and has demanded immediate dismissal of minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, responsible for the scholarship scam.
In a joint statement issued here on Wednesday, party’s s Deputy Leader of Opposition Saravjit Kaur Manuke, MLAs Principal Budhram, Master Baldev Singh and Rupinder Kaur Ruby said that the Congress government did not want to hand over the record of this multi-crore scam to the CBI to save its corrupt ministers, MLAs and crony officers.
Saravjit Kaur Manuke and Principal Budhram alleged that the Congress, which called itself the Messiah of Dalits, had squandered crores of rupees of lakhs of Dalit students, like the Badals and ruined their (Dalit students) future. They said that lakhs of deserving and meritorious Dalit students dependent on post-matric scholarships had been deprived of higher and vocational education and lakhs of students were still yearning for degrees even after graduation; for which first the Badal government and now the Congress government was responsible.
The AAP MLAs asked why the Captain government, which had given a ‘clean chit’ to the kingpin of the scholarship scam and minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot by a committee of three IAS officers, is really innocent; then why are they running to face the CBI probe?
The AAP leaders said that theoretically, the Aam Aadmi Party does not support the probe by the Central Investigation Agencies in the states, but the ‘clean chit’ inquiry committees set up by the ruling Congress for the multi-crore rupee scam to save the culprits; has given a chance to the centre’s investigating agency. Therefore, the Punjab government should now co-operate in getting the matter investigated by the CBI.
