MCM holds session on eco-friendly food packaging

The Swachhta Committee (Arts) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised an online interactive session on ‘Eco-friendly Food Packaging Solutions’. The resource persons for this enlightening session were Mr. Sandeep Mehto, Founder Bharat Calling and Vikalp and Mr. Paneti Rajesh, Sanitation and Environment Secretary, Municipal Corporation Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The session got a befitting start with the recitation of a thought provoking poem titled ‘sookha paed’ by Dr. Minakshi Rana, college’s Department of Sociology, composed by Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava, that depicts the condition of trees due to indiscriminate deforestation. Thereafter, the audience took a pledge to minimise the usage of single use plastic bottles. Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the efforts of Swachhta Committee for organising informative session on such a relevant topic. She added that United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) challenges everyone to massively scale up restoration efforts that breathe new life into our degraded ecosystems and it is high time to think of sustainable solutions.
Mr. Sandeep Mehto talked about zero waste lifestyle and eco friendly ways of reducing plastic pollution including use of edible cutlery and reusable shopping bags. Mr. Paneti Rajesh suggested plant based alternatives to plastic material used for packaging. The session ended with an interactive session wherein the participants put forth their queries as well as suggestions for ecosystem restoration.
