Chandigarh 01 April 2023 :-
The Department of Home Science at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the aegis of Vocational Education Nai Talim Experiential Learning (VENTEL) Action Plan and in association with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, organised a 3-day skill based workshop on fabric ornamentation titled Hastkala. Ms. Rati Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science was the resource person for the workshop. During the workshop, various basic as well as innovative techniques of Tie and Dye– the traditional famous art were demonstrated by the resource person. The participants acquired skills in different techniques of the art like boondi, muthra, lehria, etc. Using their own innovation and creativity, the participants designed and created beautiful dupattas, table covers, stoles, etc. in different colors and designs. All the prepared articles were displayed on the last day of workshop. The first five best entries were awarded cash prizes.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the efforts of the Department to encourage and guide the students towards development of their entrepreneurial skills in the art fabric ornamentation. She added that the institution lays great emphasis on initiatives of this kind as skills are the new age mantra for success.
