Media has pivotal role to play in shaping the socio-political framework in indian democracy: Harpal Singh Cheema

Finance minister attended special function organised to honour Padma Shri Jagjit Singh Dardi*

Punjab Finance Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema, on Saturday, participated in a function organised at Ratan Professional College Sohana by Disha Women Welfare Trust to honour senior journalist S. Jagjit Singh Dardi, Chairman, Charhdikala Time TV and Charhdikala Group of Newspapers for receiving the Padma Shri Award.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema said that society is ever changing with time. In this situation, the media takes a lead to give a new direction to the society that is why press is attributed as the fourth pillar of the democracy. He said that the press was the mirror of the society and its duty was to present the true picture of the society . He said that media should be the voice of common man by connecting with the society. In our country, the media has also played a leading role in the freedom struggle. He said that it was the media which portrayed the plight of the people in the country and inspired them to fight for independence. He said that the role of media was to act more wisely and diligently in view of the increasing crime in our society.
The Minister was accompanied with MLA Mohali Mr. Kulwant Singh, MLA Dera Bassi Mr. Kuljit Singh Randhawa, MLA Rajpura Ms. Neena Mittal and MLA Jalalabad Mr. Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy.
A documentary on life and struggle of senior jurno Mr. Dardi was also showcased. Mr. Dardi also shared his experience in the journalism.
   On this occasion Hardeep Kaur Virk, President Disha Women Welfare Trust (Regd.) Punjab thanked the audience.
