Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh today observed two minutes of silence on 30th January, 2024 in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom at 11:00 AM outside the Administrative Block, PEC, Chandigarh.
Deputy Director Prof. Siby John along with Registrar Col. (Veteran) R. M. Joshi and Dean Student Affairs Dr. D. R. Prajapati along with all the faculty & staff members and students were present to observe the silence in the memory of Martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Registrar Col. (Veteran) R. M. Joshi explained the importance of this day. He said that January 30, is marked as Martyrs’ Day, also known as Shaheed Diwas to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for their motherland. It also marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi (Father of the Nation) in 1948.
The Commencement and Termination of the Two Minutes Silence was indicated by the ‘All Clear’ sirens at 10:59 AM and 11:02 AM respectively. The siren was blown for one minute in each case. The Two Silence was observed from 11:00 AM to 11:02 AM.
