Nodal Officer Shares experience of managing supply during ragging 2nd covid wave
UDHAMPUR, MAY 27, 2021: Presently under Government control, the only Private Oxygen Generation plant in Udhampur city is working ceaselessly to supply O2 to premier hospitals of Jammu division, including Government Medical College Jammu.
As per Motshan Hanief- a junior KAS officer, appointed as Nodal Officer to oversee the production, management and utilization of oxygen, said the J&K Government has taken full control of M/s Global gases to save the human lives and to ensure that in no way it is misused.
This plant used to produce 300 cylinder on daily basis which is around 2100 cubic meter, but now, to meet the demand of hospitals it is producing 400 cylinders on daily basis which is around 2800 cubic meter, Hanief said.
“Presently the Government Medical College, Jammu is on high demand where we provide 200 plus cylinders on daily basis, 100+ cylinders to District Hospital Udhampur, 50- 60 plus cylinders to Naryana Hospital. Besides, we also provide cylinders to Doda, Banihal, Kishtwar, Ramban on daily basis as per their demand and requirement” he revealed.
In addition to this, he said, the supply also goes to peripheral areas of Udhampur district “Besides this, we also provide home delivery to patients under Post Covid recovery phase through SOS calls from Oxygen War Room with the condition that they have a technical hand to operate it,” he informed further.
The Plant is functioning round the clock and Government machinery is working here on war footing basis. Labourers and employees of industries, Police, PDD, Transport departments have been deployed and they are giving their best services on rotational basis, he said. “Two vehicles have been provided by ARTO, Udhampur exclusively for the transportation of Oxygen and we try our best to reach to the hospitals with oxygen cylinders within an hour” the Nodal officer said adding that the Manager of the plant Tirath Kumar is also extending his full support during the pandemic times.
He said that Deputy Commissioner Udhampur is personally monitoring the functioning of oxygen plant on daily basis and pass necessary instructions in this regard.
The Nodal Officer further informed that the amid the surge in Covid cases there was a heavy demand of oxygen cylinders from GMC Jammu, District Hospital Udhampur, Naryana Hospital, Command Hospital, Udhampur, Military Hospital Jammu and other district hospitals of Jammu division.
After commissioning of Oxygen generating plants in different District, the burden plant has slightly lessened.
About his own experience of handling the supply, Hanief said he feels lucky enough to get a chance to serve the people and humanity during this pandemic. “All of us worked with full dedication and honesty for the service of mankind amid this crucial juncture” he said.
