Promotion of FPOs for growth of farm sector

Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Jammu, Dr. J. P. Sharma, highlighted promoting Farmers Producer Organizations (FPO) for the growth of farm sector. “The FPOs will help farmers in grading, processing, Branding and Marketing of their produce which in turn get them high price of produce and increasing their social-economic status,” he mentioned. The VC was speaking at a meeting held by Department of Horticulture Jammu with the motive to bring HODs of allied Departments and scientists of SKUAST-J to hold a detailed discussion regarding implementation of various Departmental schemes.Th Vice Chancellor   SKUAST-J also visited  Fruit Plant Nurseries at Maralian R. S. Pura and Garhi at Mishriwala along with officers of Department of Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Planning and Marketing and scientists from SKUAST-J.
Discussion was held for overall development of Nurseries besides Horticulture in general. At Fruit Plant Nursery Garhi, an interaction with the orchardists was also done in which queries raised by them were listened.  They were made sure that the issued raised shall be resolved. Director Horticulture, Ram Sevak, informed  that the Department is providing an incentive of Rs.50,000 per Ha for High Density Plantation and Rs. 13000 per Kanal for Strawberry Plantation under the current CAPEX Budget. Director Agriculture, Inderjeet;  Director Animal Husbandry, Vivek Sharma; Director Sheep Husbandry, Dr. Sanjeev; Joint Director Horticulture L. K. Bali; Joint Director Planning and Marketing, Digvijay; Dy. Director Horticulture, Shafiqa Khalid; besides Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu and Doda, Project Officer CAD Jammu and officers of the Department with the Vice Chancellor during the visit.
