Punjab Government issues new guidelines for making school buildings and rooms unsafe

            The Punjab Government has issued new guidelines to streamline the process of declaring school buildings and rooms unsafe.
            Mr. Kirshan Kumar, secretary school education department has issued a letter to the district education officers and head teachers in this regard.
            Disclosing this today a spokesperson of the school education department said that if the school head finds any building, room or rooms unsafe then he will write a letter to the district education officer in this regard and will send a copy of the same to the junior engineer of the district.
            According to the spokesperson, a three member committee would be constituted by the concerned District Education Officer comprising of deputy district education officer, junior engineer and technically experienced officer / teacher as members. This three-member committee will visit the school and inspect the building, room or rooms concerned and will make its recommendation in this regard. The committee will send its recommendation by e-mail to the head office and further action will be taken after the approval of the head office.
            According to the spokesperson, earlier some school heads had approached the PWD (B&R) for declaring school buildings and rooms unsafe at their own level.This approach hindered the compliation of data regarding the declaration of unsafe school buildings at one place. Therefore, steps have been taken to streamline the process of declaring school buildings unsafe and to keep records at one place.
